Loosing
Streak Continues With Loss To Charlotte

Leemire
Goldwire scored 23 points, including four free throws in the final
minute, to lead Charlotte to a 73-65 win over Dayton on Saturday.
The 49ers (9-5, 2-0 Atlantic 10) led most of the game and were up by
10 points with 11½ minutes remaining. But Jimmy Binnie's 3-pointer
with 3:33 left cut Dayton's deficit to 65-60.
Curtis Withers, who added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte,
hit a jumper before Goldwire made all four of his foul shots in the
final 51 seconds to hold off the Flyers (8-8, 0-2).
Goldwire hit all nine of his free throws as Charlotte was 19-of-29
at the line to the Flyers' 11-of-11. De'Angelo Alexander
scored 13 points and Marcus Bennett had 11 for the 49ers, who shot
44 percent (23 of 52) from the field.
Norman Plummer led Dayton with 14 points, while Brian Roberts had 13
and Warren Williams 12. Dayton has now lost 5 straight.
Coach
Gregory in All-New Territory Now

(From
CBS Sportsline Reports) The third-year Flyers head man must find a
way to get his squad out a five-game losing streak -- a phenomenon
that is new to Dayton players and fans, as well as to Gregory
himself.
Losses to Fordham and Charlotte stretched Dayton's losing streak to
five (the program's first five-game losing skid since 1996-97) and
dropped the Flyers to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 play. And
not winning any games in three weeks is a new experience to Gregory,
who has done lots of winning in his two-plus years at Dayton and
before that as Tom Izzo's right-hand man at Michigan State.
Fortunately, Gregory will have a full week to prepare his team for
its next game, Jan. 14 vs. Richmond. He might need every second of
that prep time. The reason? While his team's defense and board work
have been strong, the Flyers must take better care of the ball and
must get more consistent scoring from players other than Brian
Roberts (16.6 ppg) in order to end the losing skid.
Rams Top
Flyers 66-56

Jermaine
Anderson scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half and Fordham
ended a six-game losing streak to Dayton with a 66-56 victory
Wednesday night.
Marcus Stout had 12 points and Michael Binns added 11 for the Rams
(5-8) in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both schools. Monty
Scott had all 17 of his points in the first half for the Flyers
(8-7), who lost their fourth straight, while Norman Plummer and
Logan White each added 11.
Fordham led 36-31 at halftime, but a jumper by Brian Roberts got
Dayton within 41-40 with 14:14 to play. The Rams then went on an
11-0 run that was capped by a basket by Sebastien Greene that made
it 52-40 with 11:11 left and the Flyers didn't get closer than seven
points the rest of the way.
Fordham took the lead for good in the first when Anderson scored
nine points, including two 3-pointers, in a 23-7 run that made it
33-24 with 3:26 to go in the first half.
Vanderbilt
63 - Dayton 60

Shan Foster scored 11 of his 19 points over the final 6:11, and
Vanderbilt took advantage of Dayton's cold shooting in the closing
minutes to win 63-60 Friday night. Foster made a
3-pointer to put the Commodores (9-1) ahead for good 53-50 and hit
another 3 for a 56-52 lead with 4:28 remaining. He also made 5-of-6
free throws in the final 14 seconds, countering two big baskets by
Dayton's Brian Roberts.
Roberts, who led the Flyers (8-6) with 21 points, scored on a layup
and 3-pointer in the last 7 seconds, bringing Dayton within two and
then one point. Roberts' baskets followed a scoreless stretch of
2:52, during which Dayton missed six shots. Before the late five
points by Roberts, Dayton hadn't scored since Roberts hit a jumper
with 2:59 to play to cut Vanderbilt's lead to 56-55.
Dayton, which lost its third straight, missed 16 of 26 shots from
the field in the second half. Foster made 4-of-9 shots from 3-point
range - he was 0-for-4 inside the arc - and hit 7-of-8 free throws.
He also had five rebounds.
Vanderbilt's Derrick Byars added 14 points, including a 3-pointer
that tied the score 50-all and a jumper for a 58-55 lead. DeMarre
Carroll had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Commodores.
James Cripe had 12 points off the bench for Dayton.
