The
season has come to an end for the Dayton Flyers and Xavier
Musketeers as the NIT selection committee deemed their records
apparently not sufficient to make the tournament.

The Waiting
is the Hardest Part

Many
have contented over the past few days that the Temple game was a
"play-in" for an invite to the National Invitational Tournament
(NIT). It's Selection Sunday and the Flyers have to be
sweating things out waiting to see if the selection committee looks
kindly on them and Dayton's crowd drawing potential. At 18-11,
and many good teams from stronger leagues "on the bubble" for the
NCAA Tourney, the invite looks like a long shot.
Dayton Falls
Flat (Again) Against Temple

Temple
continued its surge during coach John Chaney's suspension, using its
intimidating defense to beat Dayton 61-51 Thursday and advance to
the Atlantic 10 tournament semifinals. The four teams that got
first-round byes won their games on Thursday. Temple (16-12) will
play George Washington, the conference's only 20-win team, in one
semifinal, while Xavier faces Saint Joseph's in the other. The
Flyers end the regular season and conference tourney at 18-11.

it's Dayton's own Brian Gregory. Here's what they had to say... "Final
word: Gregory used six freshmen and two sophomores to bludgeon most
of the A-10."

10 tournament with a 78-48 win over St. Bonaventure in the first

Hard Fought
Loss To UC 65-55

Armein
Kirkland scored 23 points and Cincinnati used its speed to pull away
from Dayton for a 65-55 victory Saturday. The game was a see-saw
battle until the 4-minute mark, when Cincinnati dominated under the
basket and turned fast breaks into points. Dayton out hustled the
Bearcats for much of the second half, grabbing rebounds, making
steals and scoring off turnovers. But in the final minutes, the
Bearcats used their size advantage to rebound missed Flyer shots and
race back down the floor before Dayton could set up defensively.
