Flyers Fall
to DePaul in NCAA First Round

It
came down to free throws, and Drake Diener was perfect, propelling
DePaul to the NCAA tournament's second round for the first time in
15 years. Diener scored 10 of his career-high 28 points in the
second overtime, sparking the Blue Demons to a 76-69 victory
Thursday night over Dayton. DePaul finished 23-of-40 from the line,
including Andre Brown, who missed all 10. Dayton hit only 12-of-23
attempts. Ramod Marshall had 17 points for the Flyers (24-9), who
lost their fourth straight tournament game. They haven't won since
beating Illinois in 1990.

Flyers Come
Up Short In A10 Championship Game

The Flyers (24-8) misfired on their final 11 shots from the field
and didn't have a field goal over the final 8 1/2 minutes as they
came up short in their attempt to claim the A10 Crown two years
running against Xavier. The final score was Xavier58, Dayton
49. Dayton, the A-10's West Division champions, scored their
only points of the final 7:20 on two foul shots by Ramod Marshall,
who finished with 17, at the 5:47 mark. Sean Finn had 13 points for
Dayton (24-8), which expects to collect its 13th NCAA tournament
invitation. Keith Waleskowski had 11 rebounds for the Flyers.
``Hopefully, our name will be called tomorrow,'' Gregory said.

Dayton Wraps
Season at 22-7 With Win Over Duquesne

Ramod Marshall scored 33 points including six 3-pointers as Dayton
defeated Duquesne 73-69 Saturday in the regular season finale for
both teams. Dayton (22-7, 12-4 A-10) held Duquesne (11-16,
6-10 A-10) scoreless for the final 3:55 of the first half and held a
39-32 halftime lead. Duquesne, which trailed by as many as 13 points
in the second half, cut the lead to three points at 72-69 with 35
seconds remaining in the game on a Jimmy Tricco 3-pointer, but could
not overtake the Flyers who have now won 15 in a row against the
Dukes. Sean Finn scored 13 points for Dayton and Keith
Waleskowski added 11 points.

Flyers Play
Onto The Bubble With Loss To URI

Dustin
Hellenga caught an inbound pass from the baseline and hit a
3-pointer at the buzzer Wednesday night, giving resurgent Rhode
Island a 65-63 victory over Dayton. Unlike the ending of its last
game, Rhode Island (18-12, 7-9 Atlantic 10) made the most of its
final shot. The Rams missed two shots in the closing seconds of a
57-55 loss to undefeated Saint Joseph's on Saturday, then sat on
their home court dejected. Dayton (21-7, 11-4) has clinched its
division's top seed for the conference tournament, which will be
played on the Flyers' court next week. Unfortunately, the loss drops
the Flyers RPI into the 40's range, a dangerous place for the team
to be this late in the season & has lost 4 of their last 6 games.
A win on Saturday at Duquesne now seems to be a must for an at-large
bid in the NCAA Field of 65.

Ramod-less
Flyers Handle Explorers

Monty Scott scored 18 points and Warren Williams added 15 points in
his first start to lead Dayton past La Salle 72-58 on Saturday.
Scott hit 6-of-11 shots for the Flyers (21-6, 11-3 Atlantic 10),
including a 3-pointer during a 17-2 run that broke a 16-16 tie
midway through the first half. The Flyers built the lead to as many
as 22 points in the second half. The victory, coupled with George
Washington's 75-67 loss to Richmond on Saturday, gives the Flyers a
one-game lead in the A10 West division with two games remaining in
the regular season.

Stuck at 20
Wins - Dayton Succumbs to Xavier

Lionel
Chalmers' layup with 49 seconds left helped Xavier (16-9, 7-5
Atlantic 10) hold off Dayton (20-6, 10-3) 67-60 on Saturday. It was
Xavier's 19th consecutive win over the Flyers on the Musketeers'
home court. The Flyers last won in Cincinnati during the 1980-81
season. The Musketeers hit half of their 14 3-point attempts while
Dayton was just 1 for 18 from behind the arc. Keith Waleskowski
scored a career-high 24 points and added 15 rebounds for Dayton,
with Ramod Marshall scoring 16 points and Sean Finn 10. The Flyers
finished with a 19-5 run to make things interesting, but still lost
for the third time in four games.

GW Squeaks
By Dayton With Last Second Shot

T.J. Thompson's driving layup with 1.2 seconds to play lifted George
Washington to a 66-64 win over Dayton and tightened up the race in
the Atlantic 10 West. Thompson, who had made just one previous shot
from the floor in the second half, started his winning drive from
just inside half court and converted with the right hand to extend
George Washington's home winning streak to 14. The win moves the
Colonials (15-8, 9-3 Atlantic 10) within a game of the Flyers (20-5,
10-2), who had won 10 of 11 and five straight over George
Washington. Ramod Marshall, who scored 13 points for Dayton, hit two
free throws with eight seconds left and tied the game at 64.
However, the Flyers couldn't stop Thompson's drive to the basket or
even get a look at the win in the second that followed.

20-win mark for the fifth straight season. Mark Jones hit
consecutive 3-pointers about 5 minutes into the game to spark the
16-4 run that gave Dayton a 21-11 lead with 10 minutes left in the
half. The Flyers were up 36-21 at halftime.

Battle of
the Unbeaten At Hawk Hill

Sometimes you get a second chance at things. For the Dayton
Flyers, Wednesday's game against the St. Joseph's Hawks is a chance
to prove they belong in the elite Top 25 of all basketball programs
in the country. It's time to erase memories of an embarrassing
29 point loss at Cincinnati earlier this year. It's a way for
a team to prove to the prognosticators that 19-3 overall, 9-0 in
conference play means
something. Brian Gregory and his Flyers prepare to do battle
at the Alumni Memorial Field House on Hawk Hill while the national spotlight shines on the game and the
critics ask... will Dayton be the team to end St. Joes
20-0
undefeated season?

As fans, we saw this coming. Close games against poor to fair
warm up teams in a weak schedule. Now, critics who called the
Flyer's unbeaten record the softest 9-0 in the country, may have
been correct. UC came out with fire and Dayton responded with
turnover after turnover (28 in total). Keith Waleskowski had
his worst game this year, fouling out and seeing limited playing
time. The flustered
